Phinisi voyages are sold in several ways: by cabin, by person on a shared departure, or as a private charter of the entire vessel. The quoted price can therefore cover different things from one liveaboard to another. Before comparing two offers, check that they are based on the same trip length, guest count and inclusion list.
What is commonly included
Most multi-day phinisi quotations cover the core onboard experience. The exact standard still depends on the operator and vessel, but the following items are commonly included.
What may be charged separately
Some costs are outside the operator's base voyage rate or vary by destination, nationality, activity and local regulation. These should be shown clearly in the quotation or confirmed before payment.
Common examples include national-park and conservation fees, harbour or local government charges, domestic flights, hotels before or after the voyage, airport transfers, dive surcharges, dive-equipment rental, Nitrox, alcoholic drinks, crew gratuities and travel insurance.
A lower base rate may exclude permits, transfers or activities that another operator has already included.
Shared departures and private charters differ
On a shared departure, the rate is usually quoted per person and based on a fixed itinerary, cabin category and departure date. A single supplement may apply when one traveller occupies a cabin intended for two people.
Private-charter prices are commonly quoted for the whole vessel. The amount may be based on a stated maximum guest count, with extra-person charges above an included number. Route changes, special provisioning, private dive guides or longer transfers can also change the final quotation.
What to ask before agreeing
Ask the operator to send a written quotation that states the vessel, dates, number of nights, guest count, cabin arrangement, route, included activities, taxes and fees, exclusions, payment schedule and cancellation terms. For diving trips, also confirm the number of dives, equipment provision, guide ratios and any certification requirements.
The operator should also explain how weather, sea conditions or harbour instructions may affect the route. An itinerary is normally a plan rather than a guarantee, particularly in remote cruising areas.
